There are some ways to deter shoplifting. Mobilize in-house detectives inside the stores, post warning signage on walls and doors, frequent security measure announcements on the paging system, installing security surveillance cameras at strategic locations, training employees how to spot thieves and coordination with local police on people with records of shoplifting (usually done confidentially) so the store will have ideas who they are. Normally, shoplifters steal small items. There are costly small items that if you summed them up all together including the cheap ones, so big amount had been stolen already.
